Montenegro – a real hidden gem in Europe with a wow factor

Montenegro was one of the most surprising trips I’ve ever taken. It’s not just its stunning location on the Adriatic Sea that makes Montenegro such an attractive European destination, but the perfect blend of sea, ancient towns and incredibly impressive natural scenery. I was overwhelmed by Montenegro’s captivating charm, coupled with the friendly serenity of its locals. Here, you can enjoy almost every activity that makes for a varied holiday: hiking, swimming, sightseeing, relaxing, canoeing, rafting, ziplining and much more. Last but not least, Montenegro awaits you with its delicious regional cuisine.

Highlights:

  • Bay of Kotor – featuring a 30-kilometre long fjord
  • Biogradska National Park – one of the last remaining primeval rainforests in Europe
  • Durmitor National Park – 48 peaks over 2,000 metres and 18 glacial lakes
  • Tara Canyon – the second deepest mountain gorge in the world
  • Lipa Cave – a 6-million-year-old stalactite cave

Who is Montenegro the ideal European destination for?

Adventure travellers will be in their element. The best way to experience the perfect balance between the sea, old towns and mountains is on a road trip through the country.

When is the best time to visit Montenegro?

I recommend the spring or autumn. The pleasant temperatures are ideal for exploring the country. In summer, it can get very hot, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, especially on the coast.

My extra tip for Montenegro:

Don’t just stick to the coast during your trip, even though that’s naturally very tempting – the many spectacular sea views in particular are breathtaking. I would still advise you to venture a little way inland. You’ll find yourself immersed in a breathtaking mountain landscape and will encounter far fewer tourists.

Naxos – a hidden gem in Europe

The Greek island of Naxos is definitely an insider tip for your summer holidays in Europe. Here you can still find the idyllic charm of the Mediterranean, far from the mass tourism found on Santorini or Mykonos. Stunning beaches – which are among the most beautiful in Greece – invite you to relax and swim. If you prefer a more active holiday, you’ll find excellent surfing conditions at certain spots. There are also plenty of view points waiting for you, from which you can enjoy spectacular views of the sea or the typical white churches. I was particularly impressed by the island’s beautiful natural scenery. Mountains, green valleys and lush vegetation are just waiting to be explored on a hiking tour. Naxos is guaranteed to offer the perfect holiday experience for everyone.
