LOCATION & TRANSFER
If you want to have the true ‘lonely island’ feeling in the Maldives and experience untouched nature with no other resort in sight plus amazing snorkeling conditions, you have the come to the very South of the Maldives! Here, at the Gaafu Alifu Atoll, is the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa peacefully nestled in a blue lagoon surrounded by a vivid reef.
Due to this “far away from all the hustle and bustle” location, the transfer takes a bit longer than for other resorts but it’s so worth it! From the international Airport Velana we got welcomed by the Park Hyatt staff. The friendly team took care of our check in for the next short domestic flight to the small airport Kooddoo in the South while we could get some rest in the airport lounge. After the 45 mins flight it only took another 25 mins speed boat transfer until we reached this slice of paradise.
I’ve already mentioned above that this resort combines luxury and design with sustainability. This means that all villas are built around the vegetation of the island without big trees being chopped for the beach villas or part of the reef destroyed for the water villas.
We had the chance to test both villa categories & couldn’t decide which one we actually loved more:
Overwater Sunset Pool Villa
This spacious 115m² water villa offers the epitome of relaxation and style while being surrounded by a vivid reef all around you.
We enter the villa to the big bedroom with a lounge area, desk and of course the cozy bed with ocean view in the center of the room. The bathroom is really spacious and offers panoramic views over the lagoon while offering a maximum of privacy at the same time. A bathtub stands right next to the floor-to-ceiling windows which can be opened to let the ocean breeze in and listening to the waves while taking a bath.
From our terrace we could already spot the colorful corals and fish from above. To explore the reef the water villas have a ladder which leads into the water – but be careful if you go during low tide since the water gets really shallow around the villas during this time. The main feature of the outdoor area of our water villa was the plunge pool with sunset view and the roofed chill out area. It’s the perfect place for an obligatory floating breakfast in the Maldives. 😉
Deluxe Beach Pool Villa
Usually I prefer to stay at water villas but after visiting the Park Hyatt my mind changed! We stayed in one of their Beach Villas with Pool and it turned out to be one of my favorite villas I ever stayed at! While constructing the villas they did such an amazing job to build them in harmony with nature and to give the guests the feeling of being the only people on the island! The dark wood in combination with many glassed walls, which offer a view over the beach and the jungly vegetation, make such a cozy and tropical atmosphere. The bathroom is mainly indoors but glassed as well with a door which leads to the outdoor shower and bathtub in our private patio.
The outdoor area of the Deluxe Beach Villas is another level! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw our huge private infinity pool overlooking the beach and the blue water! Nestled in the pool is a lounge area which offers shade and is the ideal place to relax and read a book. Of course the villas all have a direct beach access to walk through the soft white sand or directly go for a snorkeling session.
Specials of the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa
With only 36 villas on land and 14 over water the Park Hyatt is a small and intimate resort which means that the main places like the pool, spa or beach will never be crowded but always feel very private!
Even though the resort is surrounded by the most beautiful sandy beach the heart of the island is very lush and tropical which is something that I really love and is not typical for all resorts in the Maldives.
The Main Pool
All together the Park Hyatt Maldives has two pools in two very different settings. The infinity pool is located at the main area of the resort, right next to the restaurant and pool bar. It overlooks the biggest biggest on the island and is surrounded by palm trees which make a picturesque and tropical scene. The bar right next to the pool is a cozy lounge which is ideal to chill or work, to enjoy a light lunch or some evening cocktails.
The second pool is in the center of the island and part of the Spa area for a tranquil experience.
In the jungly heart of the Park Hyatt you’ll find the Spa area which has a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. The tranquility pool is the perfect place to relax your mind surrounded by the lush jungle with sun beds and cabanas. It can be used during the whole day and not only if you booked a treatment. Right next to it is the fitness studio situated – just in case you like to keep up with your fitness routine while traveling – which is unfortunately not the case for us!
The treatment rooms are located behind the pool. They are little huts which all have a private patio to relax before or after your treatment or even to take a bath. Since the Vidhun Spa has a main focus on Maldivian Holistic wellbeing they offer a wide selection of treatments which includes way more than just massages! Thats why I decided to try a special form of meditation with singing bowls: The different bowls are emitting specific frequencies to create a harmonious ambience for a deep state of relaxation – I felt completely reborn afterwards!
The House Reef & Water Activities
Snorkeling fans will love the Park Hyatt even more cause it is surrounded by a 360 degree reef which is one of the most intact ones we’ve seen so far! As you may know, a few years ago a terrible coral bleaching event has been happening in the Maldives. It happened due to rising water temperatures and destroyed a huge part of all corals – mainly in the shallow waters. But what made our hearts so happy and optimistic for the future was to see that the reef here at the Park Hyatt Maldives recovered a lot and the snorkeling experience has been superb! From anemones, colorful corals and reef fish to small sharks – the house reef is extremely vivid and we felt like swimming in a National Geographic Documentary. 😉
At the water sports center you can book other activities like a turtle quest, scuba diving sessions or sunset cruises. What I found very impressing was that before any tours a marine biologist gives all attending guests a briefing about the special nature, the animals, why it is so important to protect them and how we all can do that! Because the beautiful ecosystem of the Maldives is very fragile and we can only continue to enjoy its diversity if we protect it!
Breakfast & Restaurants
The dining possibilities are a very important part for the overall experience in a resort so we always give a special attention to the menu and the quality of food and beverages. And the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa didn’t disappoint us at all!
The Dining Room
The main restaurant of the Park Hyatt has a changing menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This made me extremely happy since I’m a big fan of à la carte breakfasts! Additionally to the menu with international, Asian and Maldivian choices they prepare a small buffet each morning with fresh pastries, fruits etc. I really loved the big selection of healthy choices like different Smoothie Bowls or Avocado Toast!
The menu for lunch and dinner includes many options as well with a changing specials menu from the chef.
For a special occasion or a romantic date night guests can book a private dining. We had a Blind Dining experience planned for our first night the the Park Hyatt. We had a set menu with pairing wines but before each course got served, we had to cover our eyes with a face mask and tried a mini version of each dish on a spoon. This way we could guess the ingredients while only focusing on the taste instead of the look! What a fun experience and wow – the menu blew us away! Its been extremely delicious, surprising and unforgettable! P.S. When ordering your private dining experience you can of course tell the staff if you don’t like specific food or have any dietary requirements. So you don’t have to be scared of “bad surprises” during the blind tasting!
The Island Grill
As the name already implies the second restaurant of the Park Hyatt offers a selection of fresh BBQ dishes from the charcoal grill with an open kitchen to watch the chef preparing your food. The restaurant is located right at the beach with the tables in the sand for a true island feeling. During our visit at the Island Grill, they had a BBQ Buffet night prepared with countless choices from fresh fish, meat and veggie options in combination with many sides and desserts!
Wow! Our time at the Park Hyatt has been unforgettable and it quickly reached our Top List of our favorite resorts in the Maldives! We fell in love with the calm and intimate atmosphere combined with the vivid nature on land and under water. It made us so happy to see how deeply the Park Hyatt cares about its environment and takes protecting the ecosystem extremely serious. It gave us a really good feeling throughout the whole stay and showed us that it is definitely possible to combine luxury with sustainability!
Many projects are planned of the future or already happening like the construction of a presidential over water villa and a tree house restaurant which is only made of “left over wood” from the island. Currently the Park Hyatt is building on a garden too to grow vegetables, herbs and other plants for the restaurants. The management never rests and always comes up with new ideas and vision to make the resort even more eco friendly and unforgettable for its guests! We are excited to see what else will come in the future and can not wait to visit the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa again!
We had a sponsored stay at the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa.
