Die capital of Mexico is one of the biggest metropolis worldwide and offers a huge variety for visitors. Starting from many hundred years old ruins of Aztec pyramids, art museums to colonial buildings from the 19. century and modern sky scrapers. One of these new super buildings is the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma.

LOCATION & TRANSFER

Located in the beautiful and modern neighborhood Reforma, the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma has the ideal location in the city. The historical old town with many sights and the famous Parc Chapultepec are located within walking distance and the area of the city is famous for its many restaurants and shopping possibilities.

The Concept of the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma

With the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma the French hotel chain Sofitel built a modern and stylish hotel which newly opened up in 2019 and already counts as the new hotspot hotel in Mexico City.

My first impression of the building is already fascinating: It combines a renewed colonial house from the 19. Century with the recently built 40 storage hotel.
Arriving to the Sofitel we got instantly welcomed and in times of COVID-19 every guest’s temperature will be checked plus it’s mandatory to always disinfect your hands if you enter the hotel and to wear a mask in the public areas. This keeps all guests and also the staff safe!

Pool & Spa

One of my highlights of the Sofitel is the huge indoor saltwater pool! Located on the 38th floor it offers an insane view over the skyline of Mexico City. Due to the pandemic guests have to reserve a time slot in advance to have the pool just for themselves. Many relaxing beds, the service right at the pool and massaging water streams make it to the ideal place to unwind. 

The Spa with L’Occitane is located on the 39th floor and is an amazing place to recover after a strenuous day and to enjoy the incredible view. No matter if during a pampering treatment or in the saunas (one for woman & men each) which are complimentary.

The Rooms

During our stay at the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma we stayed in one of the amazing Opera Suites which left us speechless! But even the Luxury Rooms of the hotel are offering incredible views:

LUXURY ROOM

The room with a cozy Sofitel bed in the center will impress you with its amazing view the very second you set foot through the door. A sliding door leads to the spacious and bright bathroom – it even has a bathtub from which you can enjoy the view over the city too!

OPERA SUITE

Our 147 sqm huge suite is comparable to a fully equipped apartment. Behind the very well sorted bar and the office is the open living room with a big sofa located. A block in the center of the room has a TV on two sides plus a fire place at the third side. Behind it you find the big dining table right at the window facade which is ideal for meetings too. That’s where we started every day with an excellent in room breakfast and the iconic view over the city. The window faced begins at the living room and continues along the whole suite for an incomparable 270 degree view over the capital. Thanks to the windows the bedroom feels even bigger and open than it is already is – but of course it can be completely darken anytime. Right behind it is the walk in closet and the spacious marble bathroom. Beside two sinks and a rain shower with window, a free standing bathtub with the size of a jacuzzi is the highlight of the room. After a strenuous day it’s been a welcoming relaxation to sip a glass of wine while enjoying a bubble bath and watching Mexico City at night!

Restaurants

Balta

Breakfast will usually be served at the Balta Restaurant with a rich buffet. But the Balta is also open for lunch and dinner with a Mexican & Mediterranean fusion cuisine. Due to COVID-19 regulations the restaurant is temporarily closed but guests can still order in room service and the breakfast will be á la carte & delivered to the room.

CITYZEN ROOFTOP KITCHEN

The rooftop bar of the Sofitel Mexico City quickly developed to a new hotspot in the city with unparalleled views over some of the most popular sites like Chapultepec Castle, the Angel of Independence and much more. It’s also open for non-hotel guests which would like to enjoy a cocktail with a view or the French and Mexican cuisine.

RÉSUMÉ

In my opinion Sofitel Mexico City Reforma is THE address for travelers in the Mexican capital – no matter if you’re traveling on a business trip or for sightseeing like us! The French elegant Sofitel Style continues throughout the whole hotel and together with the finest culinary highlights and the courteous service we could relax and enjoy our stay! We couldn’t have imagined a better accommodation for our first journey to Mexico City.

The OTulum is a quiet hotel far away from the hustle and bustle of Tulum but still close by!

THE LOCATION

The OTulum is located around 14 km (8,7 miles) away from center of Tulum City. It’s right at the beach but far away from all the bigger hotels, shops etc. Which makes it perfect for some relaxing days or as a base for some days during a road trip to explore the area around Tulum.

At the Hotel you get some free bikes to drive around – for example to the beautiful Casa Cenote which is only two minutes away.

THE HOTEL CONCEPT

The Hotel opened up only one year ago so everything is really new & modern. It reminded me more of an apartment complex located at the Beach than a classical Hotel.
It was super quiet all the time since it has only around 15 rooms and due to the fact that it’s an Adult only hotel.

At the Beach they have the Restaurant Costa-Brava, a pool and sun beds for a lazy day in the sun.

You can find another pool on top of the restaurant building overlooking the ocean.

Our Room

Our Deluxe Room has been modern with a little entrance area where we had our closet and coffee machine and the bedroom behind it.

Through a sliding door you enter the terrace with your own jacuzzi which is connected to a bigger pool – so you could actually swim from room to room.

The bathroom is equipped with high quality amenity kits and has a separated huge shower.

The Breakfast

The breakfast is included and served at the Costa-Brava Restaurant right at the beach and you get a fruit bowl with yogurt and granola plus an additional free dish from the breakfast menu. It has classical choices like omelet, healthy ones like an Acai Bowl and also Mexican options.

RÉSUMÉ OF OUR STAY AT THE OTULUM

After spending a couple of days in the busy area of Tulum we really enjoyed our time staying at this way more quiet and relaxing area.
The OTulum won’t be the right place for you if you justnwanna fall out of your hotel for different bars, restaurants and shopping choices. But if you’re planning to travel around Yucatan by car this hotel is the perfect choice as a relaxing base to explore the area around Tulum.

The Nômade Hotel Tulum is one of the hippest hotels in Tulum and a Boho paradise!

THE LOCATION

The Nômade is located in the hotel area of Tulum right at the Beach. This is where most of the hotels, restaurants and bars can be found too – especially the “hip” ones which are mostly a little more expensive than the ones in Tulum city.

Since the hotel area is located in the middle of the jungle you will have no phone connection at all – but most of the places have free wifi hotspot.

THE HOTEL CONCEPT

Entering the Hotel area you instantly feel like entering another world – a boho paradise. The people are super friendly and everything is designed in a gypsy chic style with natural materials.
The houses and tents are located in a green and lush jungle surrounding but nevertheless you’re always just some steps away from the beach.

At the beach you find cozy sun beds, nets and some kind of hammocks designed like a pyramid and they also have a smaller pool at the beach to relax.

The Seaweed situation at the Beach

The beach itself is nice and clean but when we’ve been there in February there was a lot of seaweed washed up from the waves – they remove it every single morning but during the day there’s of course a lot of seaweed accumulating again.
It’s an unpredictable natural phenomenon depending on the wind and current of the sea. No one can really say if there will be a lot or maybe no seaweed during your visit in Tulum.
I didn’t had any problem with the seaweed but there are some people which don’t like it at all.

Feeling close to nature

You really feel close to nature in this hotel which reminds us more like a village of likeminded people – it totally reflects the Tulum vibes. The Nômade staff os doing the best they can to be as sustainable as possible – f.e. they forgo any single use plastic and have countless plant based food options.

If you wanna explore the area or wanna go to Tulum City (which is a 20-30 mins bicycle ride away) you can rent some bicycles for free.

In the evening they light up candles everywhere which gives the place an even more magical touch.
They have live music every evening, free yoga sessions several times a day and other free sessions changing daily.
The Nômade is all about meeting people and finding yourself.

The Room

Our “room” was actually a tent called “deluxe tent”.  It really had the charm of an explorer tent and I felt like Indiana Jones sleeping here.

The private outdoor area

We had a small outside area to sit, work and relax which was open but still private. You enter the tent via a sliding door which of course can be locked from the inside or with a key from the outside.

Sleeping in a Deluxe Tent

The tent is arranged as a one-room concept – you have a huge bed, closet, sitting bags, a table and a mirror. Everything is designed in the same Boho style like the whole hotel. Of course there’s also an AC installed – otherwise it would be uncomfortable to sleep in the warm and humid nights.
You’ll find one glass bottle with drinking water in your room which will be replaced for free whenever you want a new one.

If you don’t wanna sleep in a tent, you can book one of the beach bungalows of the Nômade.

The outdoor bathroom

Through another sliding door you enter the bathroom which is completely outdoors! Only the shower & toilet have a little wooden roof above it in case of rain.
They provided all bath amenities in reusable containers – good smelling Body Lotion, Shower Gel, Shampoo and Conditioner.

Breakfast & Restaurants

The breakfast buffet is located in main building – which also has the concierge service, a bar and the “Macondo” Restaurant. In the evening it serves healthy food from a holisitc menu and in the morning you find the breakfast buffet here.
I really loved it! You have a lot of fresh & healthy choices and additionally you can order hot food like eggs etc.
The only little minus I have to mention is that they charge you the prices for drinks like cappuccino and other coffee specialities – only Tea, Juice & regular coffee is included.

RÉSUMÉ OF OUR STAY AT THE NÔMADE TULUM

We absolutely enjoyed our time at the Nomade Hotel thanks to the super friendly staff and positive vibes of this place. You will find so many photogenic and inspiring places to shoot or simply to enjoy.
For the next days we planned a lot of exploring & driving around Yucatan so we booked another hotel for these days. At the Nômade we really used our time to relax and enjoy.
